Translation: Thank You Google

same day payday loans

Big P has been in school now for 8 months and we have settled into a routine now.  Watching him learn has been so cool – especially the French aspect of it all. P is in the French Immersion program and Princess R will be doing the same program starting next September (wha?!?!).  I am so glad they start off in Kindergarten with this because I am having to learn it all too. All his work is in French and he brings home books and activities for us to do together at home.

One of the coolest things has been both P and R’s interest in French. We now watch mostly French television during their tv times and they play computer games in French and even most of the movies we own have the French audio option.

One of the hardest things about the French immersion is the questions that my curious kids ask about French. They are constantly asking ‘what is that in French?’ or “how do you say that in French?’ and since I have really no idea – i leave it to my trusty friend …

Google Translate.

Seriously – in the days of translation dictionaries i would not survive.  Now all i have to do is head over to the website and type in the word or phrase in English and it will translate it for me.  You can even hear the French (&English) word/phrase so you know exactly how to say it.

It has been so much fun.

Big P likes the colour blue / Big P amie la couleur bleue

Princess R loves the colour pink / Princess R amie la couleur rose

I am pretty convinced Google knows everything and this specific awesome allows me to feel like I can encourage their interest in the French language without completely fumbling through it.

It is time to go to bed now / Il est temps d'aller au lit maintenant

I am so happy that they are so enjoying the new challenge and i am glad Google will translate for me later in life when they know way more then i do.

That is such a great idea and one I never thought of! My kids are still too young to use the computer but I imagine in a few years they will be all over it.

My oldest is really into using the computer now (he is 5) and my second loves to sit next to him and watch but doesn’t really actively play on it yet.

It’s amazing how quickly they pick things up…my 3 year old is basically an expert on my mac book pro.I laugh every time I see her navigate to the Safari browser, open her games from favorites and off she goes! I think I was still in diapers at 3! hahaa….how times change!

Google lied to you. The Canadian French spelling is bleu, not bleue

I had to giggle because it is the opposite for me! My son goes to a French daycare and is beginning to speak 100% French even at home so I spent a lot of time trying to figure out “what is that in English?”. He is forcing me to learn French but sadly I think I’ll be asking him more than he asks me.
