Near the start of the year, I lost two of my longest companions when my two 16-year old cats passed away just a few weeks from each other. I had them in my life since I was 16-years old and they’ve been with me through everything. It was something I was trying to prepare myself for, but actually going through it all — I was just not ready.
We had adopted a 3-year old cat not long after our first older cat passed away — hoping she could bring comfort to Ming-Ming who was now without Puff, but he didn’t life too much longer, which took me a little bit by surprise. Since then, we’ve had the joy of Ariel in the house which is fun and she’s totally amazing — and quite the opposite to the older two cats I’ve known forever.
I have always had 2 cats though and I was noticing that Ariel was bored during the day. She would sit and stare at me and seemed to lose a bit of her spunk in a short amount of time. It was my belief she would be happier with a cat companion and after a lot of chats and months gone-by, just over a week ago we adopted another cat from the same local Humane Society. I saw him and fell in love pretty quickly because he reminds me a lot of Puff and Ming-Ming and I was sure his personality would be just what Ariel needed.
He’s a black 3-month old kitten who we named Gmork — after the Nothing wolf servant in one of my childhood favourite movies The Neverending Story. He’s one of the cuddliest cats ever, loves to purr, and has that kitten energy that I haven’t seen in a long time! He tears up the curtains, climbs up the window screens, and gets into every nook and cranny of the house. I snapped a quick picture for you to see him, in a very rare “he’s not tearing up the house” moment so I know better photos are going to come.
