Product Review: Sensible Beginnings Cereal by Glutino

June 10, 2010

I had the opportunity to try out the new line of Glutino Sensible Beginnings cereal yesterday before it has even been launched. The line comes with three different varieties: Sensible Beginnings, Frosted Sensible Beginnings and Berry Sensible Beginnings.  This line is the first fortified gluten free cereal on the market and a great source of vitamins B12 and Vitamin C.

Glutino is one of the larger gluten free companies who make it their mission to :
provide a healthy lifestyle to all those with Celiac Disease and those who follow a gluten-free / wheat-free diet.

Packaging:
Since I received the cereal before it is being launched, the packaging my cereal came in does not include the printing.  The photo at the top of the post will show what the boxes are intended to look like.  Going from the photo and the leaflet Glutino provided to me, each box will come in a 284g (10 oz) package.  As Glutino usually does, “Gluten Free” is in large print right on the top of the box making it known this product is safe for people with gluten intolerance, autism or celiac disease.  Each variety is free from gluten and wheat, is kosher and fat free.  Fortified with vitamins C, B6, B1, B2, B12, folic acid and vitamin A this marks the first fortified gluten free cereal available.  The cereal is made up of corn meal and rice.  An allergy warning is listed for soy and possible traces of tree nuts and sesame.
Taste and Texture:

Sensible Beginnings:  I loved the texture of this cereal – being both a wonderful size and a great crunch to it.  I do not like soggy cereal and these flakes held up to the almond milk leaving it crunchy right to the last bite. With a very slight glaze on top of the flakes it was neither too sugary or too bland.
Frosted Sensible Beginnings: I miss Frosted Flakes and this cereal tastes exactly like what I remember.  The texture of the flakes is again the perfect combination of crunch and also doesn’t get soggy in the milk.  The sugar coating is amazing and this cereal tastes great even without milk. I was really excited to try this one out and was not let down.

Berry Sensible Beginnings: This one was definitely my favourite of the three. The freeze-dried strawberry flakes were so tasty and the texture of the soft strawberries mixed with the hard crunch of the cereal {without milk} really was amazing. As with the other two varieties I forgot I was eating gluten free cereal. Once I added milk the strawberry slices came to life and the taste was so delicious.
Keep your eye on your store shelves because you will not want to miss out on this great new line of cereals.  For more information you can visit Glutino’s website, facebook or twitter page.
