I was given the opportunity to try out and review the new cheese sauce mixes by Riega Foods – they sent me both the white and yellow cheddar flavors – both of which are gluten free.
Riega Foods is committed to providing safe food options:
When a person has special dietary needs it is important to know what is in your food and where it is made. That is why we fully disclose all ingredients and clearly list what other common allergens causing ingredients are used in the facilities where our foods are made. With the Riega brand we even give you a quick reference stamp in the upper right hand corner of our packaging. This stamp quickly lets you know if our foods are appropriate for you. Riega Foods also understands that those with gluten intolerance need lower levels of gluten in their food than the FDA currently allows. That is why we will not sell a single product labeled as gluten free that is not tested and confirmed to contain less than 20 ppm of gluten.

| Gluten Free Macaroni & Cheese made with Riega Foods Yellow Cheddar Sauce Mix |
The sauce mix was very simple to make – very similar to a very popular gluten cheese sauce mix. The taste was actually very similar to that popular brand and it took me back to childhood. The colour had a more natural look then the commercial gluten brands that have that unnatural bright orange colour.
Normally I would make my own cheese sauce but on really busy days I can see this product being very useful for us. It only takes about 12 minutes to cook the pasta and make the sauce and you can’t get an easier meal then that!
White Cheddar:

The white cheddar cheese sauce mix tasted the same as the yellow cheddar and I didn’t really notice much of a colour change from the yellow cheddar. I added in some bacon crumbles, yellow pepper and sweet onion to bulk up the dinner and add in some vegetables. Again, it was simple to make and I really enjoyed it.
Both the yellow cheddar and white cheddar sauces would also be really good to dip into your veggies (broccoli, asparagus) and a great way to get your kids to eat their vegetables!
Another way to use the cheese sauce mix would be to sprinkle the powder right onto warm popcorn for a quick and tasty cheddar popcorn treat.
