Product Review: Revolution Foods Mashups by EcoMom

May 29, 2010

I was sent some sample products from the Revolution Foods product line by EcoMom for my kids and I to test out and I was intrigued by what “mashups” were.  The flavors they sent (Berry, Tropical and Strawberry Banana) certainly sounded great and given they are organic and unsweetened, they had to be good.

Revolution foods was founded on the belief that

all children deserve access to healthy, wholesome
foods, especially where they need it most – in their schools. Our organic lunchbox snacks make it easy to nourish your kids with yummy balanced nutrition. We like to think of it as Lunchbox Simplicity. Simple for parents to pack, simple for kids to eat and a simple way to maintain a healthy diet at school or at home. And when you purchase our products, 3% of sales gets donated to our School Lunch Program to help provide fresh meals to kids in under-served schools.

Revolution foods organic mashups squeezable fruit are certified organic. They are produced in a facility that also processes gluten, milk and soy so if you have allergies to those I would be careful.  I did not let my daughter test these out because of those warnings.

Packaging:

Each pouch (90g) is one serving size and has between 40-60 calories per serving.  Each product has no trans fat, no high fructose corn syrup and no artificial ingredients.  The only ingredients in the ingredient lists are fruit – nothing more and nothing less!

Taste and Texture:

Berry flavor is made up of the organic fruit purees of apple, strawberry, blackberry and blueberry. This one was my favorite and tasted like a gourmet apple sauce. The fact that it is unsweetened made me love it even more. The combination of berries was incredible.

Strawberry Banana flavor is made up of a combination of apple, banana and strawberry fruit purees. This has a strong taste of banana that is lightly infused with the strawberry flavor. Delicious if you love the taste of banana! Also has the texture of apple sauce but more creamy.

The Tropical flavor organic mashup is a blend of apple, banana, pear and mango fruit purees.  This one tastes mostly like mango which is not a flavor my kids or I get very often. It was delicious but our least favorite of the bunch.  The texture again was a more creamy version of what traditional apple sauce would be.

If you are interested in providing healthy options for your children, any of these three flavors would be an excellent choice.  They are delicious, easy to use and I love that they are free from artificial flavors.  There are more products in the Revolution Foods line so be sure to check out their website and browse around.
