Readeo: Connecting Page By Page
I was contacted by Readeo to do a review on their service and I was excited to check it out. Sounded like a great service and my kids right now are SO into books I was interested to see what they would think.

Readeo is a patent-pending product that combines the best children’s books with high-quality video chat to create a shared reading experience called BookChatTM where people can see, hear, read and interact with grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and others—just as you would if you were in the same room. Readeo allows families to connect and interact in a meaningful way—even when they may be far apart.

This product was something I was interested in because I have some family who live a bit further away and they aren’t able too see the kids as much as they would like to. Readeo would allow my family members to share in one of my kids favourite activities with out worrying about the distance.

How It Works:

Readeo is very simple to set up. Great instructions on how to get your account set up and comes with a video walk through.

When you’ve finished setting up an account the fun begins.  I had set up the Members Account for myself and one of the great things about Readeo is that since I have the members account and can access all the books, whoever wants to read with my kids only has to set up the Guest Account – which is free.
Accustomed Chaos profile for Readeo
There is a great selection of books to choose from and the list is growing weekly. A great feature is that the description has a little write up on the book as well as the recommended age for reading.  Readeo allows you to put your favourite books into your own bookshelf – allowing for quick access to your child’s favourite reads and helps you sort out which books you’d like your child to read.  I set up 2 different bookshelves, one for my son and one for my daughter:

Once that was set up I tried out the Solo Read feature with the kids.  We chose a book and began to read. The picture views of the books were perfect. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to read the print off the computer, but it was no problem at all.

And Here’s To You! by David Elliot on Readeo
I read a bunch of different books to my kids and we loved each one. Flipping the page was as simple as a click and you could go forwards or backwards. If I could change one thing though I would put a “back to beginning” button at the end of the book.  Sometimes my kids would want to read the same book over and over and hitting the ‘back’ button 15 times was not really ideal.
The biggest feature of Readeo is the BookChatTM  feature. Allowing a family member or friend to read to your child from far away is a great concept.  My brother set up a guest account and we tried out the BookChatTM feature:

This feature was great! All it takes is a web cam and one party to have a Members Account and the other only needs a Guest Account. I loved this feature. When I flipped the page it switched for my brother and vice versa. The video and audio worked well and it was fun for my brother to be able to read to my kids.  I can really see how this product would be especially useful for grandparents who live farther away or for when kids are separated from one of their parents.  Reading is so important and this really leaves it so no one is left out.
Readeo is offering all you lovely readers a code to enter for a free month of their services.  Just enter “goreadeo” when you set up an account.  You will want to hurry to check it out because right now they are having a sale for 50% off the membership price!
