Product Review: Kinnikinnick Personal Size Pizza Crust

March 16, 2010

I had never tried the Kinnikinnick Personal Size Pizza Crust before, in fact I hadn’t even seen it in my store yet (it’s there now though) so when Kinnikinnick sent me a box of it to try out I was quite excited. I had not had too much success finding a frozen or store bought pizza crust that will stand up to my picky texture standards so I was not really sure what to expect.

Kinnikinnick Personal Size Pizza Crust is made of a combination of sweet rice flour and tapioca starch and is gluten free, dairy free (and casein free), soy free and manufactured in a facility free from peanuts/tree nuts, gluten and dairy.

Packaging:
As with all Kinnikinnick products “Gluten Free” is prominently displayed as is the ALTA (GFCF) symbol. Each box comes with 4 pizza crusts (totaling 600g) and comes frozen. You know a company knows what they are doing when they package the products right. Each box comes with the pizzas sealed with 2 in a pack – that way you don’t have to risk opening the box and subjecting the other crusts to freezer burn. Each of the crusts are a generous size and 2 servings per crust, selling for $8.80CDN it is the cheapest GF crust I’ve come across.

Texture and Taste:

Kinnikinnick Personal Pizza Crust was nothing short of incredible.  I know this it talking it up quite a lot, but it really was! I have had store bought/frozen gluten free pizza before and they always have the texture of cardboard. On days where I have a million things going on (let’s face it I’ve got 3 kids 4ys and under, there is always something going on) I need to be able to make a quick lunch for myself and the kids.  Kinnikinnick Personal Pizza Crust bakes up from frozen in 10 minutes.  The bottom of the crust is dusted with corn meal adding a great texture to the soft crust.  This pizza crust was so similar to what I remember “real” pizza and nothing like cardboard.

Kids Appeal:
My kids LOVED this product – all 3 of them.  The ease of this product and the little time it takes to prepare also make this a great starter food for your kids to help in the kitchen. They loved being able to put the sauce on and the the cheese and watch it bake up in the oven. Taking only 10-15 minutes to bake it kept their attention the whole time.  They ate every last crumb!

If you haven’t tried this product yet and love pizza I recommend this one for sure!  If you have tried this product, share your thoughts!
