Kinnikinnick Cinnamon Sugar Donuts: Gluten & Dairy Free
I have been wanting to try Kinnikinnick Cinnamon Sugar Donuts for about ever. I have made my own donuts before and they are really good – but also a lot of work. I wanted to know what a commercially available gluten and casein free donut tasted like. Today was the day:
If you don’t know Kinnikinnick Foods – get yourself acquainted. They provide allergy friendly foods that are produced in a dedicated facility free from gluten and nuts. The company mission is:

Packaging:

Kinnikinnick packaging is always very clear on who this product is safe for. Big letters announcing the gluten free and dairy free status as well as any other allergens {these donuts are also soy free}.  Clearly displaying the GFCF ALTA logo for a quick glance at it’s safety.  The donuts are made of a combination of rice flour and tapioca starch and contains no preservatives. It is usually frozen for freshness and comes in a package of 6 good sized donuts.

Taste and Texture:

Seriously – when I took a bite of this donut I had what could only be described as a “food-gasm”. It had been 3.5 years since I had a store-bought donut. I remember very clearly because when I was first told I would need to go onto a gluten free diet – for life – I took the weekend to indulge in my favourite foods and donuts was  one of them. This donut from Kinnikinnick was incredible – so good!
The texture of the cinnamon sugar donut was on par with gluten donuts. Following the instructions on the box I heated the donut for 15 seconds in the microwave before hand and took my first bite. Perfect blend between moist and crumbly. The cinnamon sugar flavor was also amazing – I am almost embarrassed to admit – but i licked the plate. yep. that good!
Kids Appeal:
Big P and Baby E were interested in trying out these donuts. Princess R is strange about food and if she is not interested I don’t push it and she wasn’t in the mood for a donut. Both Big P & Baby E LOVED this Kinnikinnick donut. Big P devoured his half of the donut and begged for more. He really enjoyed it – a lot!
There is 170 calories in each donut so it is not a treat I would give them every day – but i would not hesitate serving my kids these donuts because not only are they SAFE – they are delicious!
