Glutino Chocolate Vanilla Creme Cookies

When I was younger – even a few years ago – I was in love with a well known cookie called Oreo They were my favourite desert of all time, favourite snack and favourite treat. Then in 2007 I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease and with that out went my favourite Oreo.
There are many options out now for gluten free oreo-type cookies and when my grocery store stocked up on Glutino Chocolate Vanilla Creme cookies I had to pick a pack up.
They are made up of a combination of corn flour, corn starch, rice flour, potato flour, tapioca and soy flours. They are gluten free but do contain eggs and soy ingredients with a warning of may containing dairy, peanuts and tree nuts.

Packaging:

The cookies come in a package of 300g (10.6oz) and are clearly marked as being “Gluten Free”.  A reasonable amount of cookies are in the box. One thing I wish was different about the packaging (and this product is not the only one) is I wish it was in a resealable package. If it was in a seal-able box or even with ziplock zipper. I end up having to transfer the cookies to a plastic bag that I can close.

Texture and Taste:
The cookie had a great size to them and the texture of the chocolate cookie was very similar to (what I remember) gluten cookies.  It had a tasty chocolate taste without being too chocolaty and I liked the texture imprint in the cookie.

The vanilla cream was good too. I did find it to be a bit too much of an icing sugar taste and not enough vanilla. It was creamy and blended well with the outer cookie.

Kids Appeal:

My kids really liked these cookies. My brother was over too and also enjoyed them. All three of my kids ate them and asked for more.

If you are looking for a good gluten free oreo-type cookie – these ones are really tasty. I will admit I still have a hard core love for another brand of GF oreo type cookies and it would take a LOT for me to break away from them.  If you don’t have to worry about dairy allergies, soy allergies or peanut allergies – but need to eat gluten free – this is a good option.
