Motherhood Confessions: Life’s Not Always Perfect

November 4, 2011

Motherhood is amazing. It is all I have ever wanted and then more. It’s also not always fun and roses and rainbows. There are parts of the ‘job’ that I don’t always enjoy and there are some things we do a bit outside the box.  Here is a short list of my motherhood confessions (part one because there will be plenty more in the future):

I hate doing crafts with my kids :

Mother’s on tv do them and they turn out perfect. All that happens when I do crafts with my kids is glue and glitter everywhere with an end product that looks nothing like we hoped.

I hide the cookies from them :

I share my breakfast with my kids. They eat my lunch and dinner off my plate or I eat the food cold when they are already done.  I hide the cookies from them and eat them happily all by myself.

Playgrounds/playgroups drive me crazy :

They cause me anxiety. They are loud and dangerous and I find I spend more time gasping at their almost-falls. It also seems to take more time to get all three dressed and ready to go then we spend outside.

My kids don’t get dressed every day :

They hate wearing pants. I don’t blame them because I hate it too. If you were to randomly drop in on us at home you will find Big P is a shirt, underwear and socks; Princess R will be in a shirt, underwear and a tu-tu; Babe E will either be naked, in only a shirt or a princess dress.

I need space too :

My kids are with me all the time. The older two are in school part time now so it’s a bit easier but Babe E is never away from me. About 4 nights out of the week I will have one or all three in bed with us at some point in the night. I read stories to them on my lap. They fight over cuddles and I do my best to give them each time during the day for their own special cuddles. By Friday I am so done though. Not a naturally ‘cuddly’ person – I get touched out pretty quickly and tell them to give me my space.

Now, your turn to confess!

I don’t like giving Monkey a bath. I usually use that time to catch up on twitter. My husband makes it fun and plays with Monkey in the bath but I just dont get into like he does!

That’s one i can totally relate to Ruth! My husband used to be in charge of the bathing – but since his work schedules changed up – it’s on me & i hate it!

I am like you Devan, I get touched out and by friday I just want to put an invisable bubble around me that no one can get through. I hate the idea of play groups, it all seems like too much work, not to mention that my kids are not winers or criers or need to be constantly picked up kinda kids, so the idea of being around wine-eee kids or actually being around them drives me NUTZ!!!

I hate feeding my son. I mean I do it (OBVIOUSLY) but he would rather do ANYTHING than eat a meal. His day consists of 10,000 mini snacks. Ugh.

I hate playdough. There I said it. If you’ve ever bought my kids a playdough set it gets hidden until the kids find it then played with once – until I can’t stand it anymore – then I get out a big garbage bag and the whole thing (pizza maker, hair cutting shop, or whatever else kind of “sets” there are) gets thrown out.

It grosses me out, I hate the mess and I’d rather do anything (almost) than play with playdough.

Wow… I feel much better now ;)

Oh – one more thing – sometimes I put my kids in front of the television so I can get something done (like make them dinner in peace). The horror ;) !

Maija, me too – my kid has watched “Cars” and “Bolt” way more times than I’d like, just so I could get the dishes done… or finish a blog post for that matter… yikes. We’re trying to cut back. And Devan – my kid basically spent the entire summer without pants (or diaper or undies). Lots of unbloggable photos and footage from that.

Hahaha! I can’t blame the no pants thing — I hate them but i think it’s so funny that after taking off their shoes when they are home from school — the pants come next.

oh & i could totally recite Cars and Bolt line for line…

Me too!! That makes me feel better. Actually, you know Pixar is good because their movies can be watched dozens of times and they’re still good. All three “Buzz-Woody” movies get watched a lot in our house too.

My confessions: My son hasn’t had his hair washed in god knows how long. It isn’t worth the screaming. And my kids don’t get dressed every day either. AND I hate crafts. Just go and draw a picture with crayons already.

this is wonderful!! My turn! Confession: I feed my kids processed foods. I don’t buy organic. And my 10 month old daughter has eaten high fructose corn syrup already.

I have zero patience for what I consider bad behavior. There, I said it…. I’m the meanest mom in the world. I don’t put up with tantrums, whining or running about. If we’re in a restaurant and someone’s child is being allowed to run up and down while being ignored by the parent, steam comes out my ears.

We won’t even go into the parents letting kids run around stores.
