#MileMonday: The Week The Flu Didn’t Take Me Down

January 10, 2011

same day payday loans

Last week i was sick with some super sonic wicked awful flu.  With the three kids also being sick I was wiped.  The majority of the week I had a fever of 103.  It was awful.

I know you are not supposed to workout with a fever or when you are sick so I knew i needed to take it easy.  i also didnt want to take a week off from exercising. It’s my time and my body craves it.   I didnt want to make myself more sick or prolong the flu either.

My compromise.  Take it easy.  I still went out 5 days out of the week but walked for the majority of it while I had the fever.  It is better then nothing and really all my body could handle.

By Sunday I was feeling a lot better.  I was able to run the full mile and walk a second.  My brother and I were talking about our goals and we decided also to add in an additional workout after our run.  We tried out an Abdominal video – 15 minutes of just ab work.  Our goal is to do that as well after our runs.  Not sure how well that will go though – it was tough ;)

Week 5:
5 x / week
Ran:
2 miles (3.2km)
Walked: 4.5 miles (7km)
Ab workout: 20 minutes

Wow, I wish I had that determination/motivation. I always feel so much better after I exercise but getting the motivation to do it is a completely different matter. When I’m sick, I use it as a great excuse to avoid it. Good for you to have that desire no matter what!

thank you! it is normally a HUGE excuse for me too — but honestly i am sick and/or injured a lot and finally decided not to let it hold me back. xxoo

The post-run workout is a great idea! Anything that adds some weight resistance will keep your metabolism high and help you burn tons more calories!

Great job getting your workouts in despite being sick! I hear you, that is “your time” and it vital for stress management, or at least it is in my opinion.

I have started to do Ab Ripper X after my runs and it is awesome! I hate it and love it at the same. Fortunately it is only 15 min b/c I am not sure I could do it any longer! LOL!

I can’t really comment. I rarely workout. I do yoga with my 4 year old, he loves it, every now and then. I have no excuse, no flu over here! You are an inspiration!

We’ve had a lot of sickness round here too…no fun. Glad to hear you are all on the mends now.

YAY for the workouts too, I’m still waiting to “start” my “resolutions”….hoping the moment to “go” strikes soon.
