The sun is shining.
The air is fresh.
The birds are chirping.
Spring is coming.
I look forward to this time every year when the days are brighter longer and the temperatures are hovering at a perfect temperature. not too hot. not too cold. perfect.
Every year around the end of November through to the end of February i am in what i call a ‘winter hibernation’. The weather is cold, the days are short and there is little time spent outside. I hate it. I don’t like snow. Never have and probably never will.
There is a bit more to it then just the weather. I can not medically drive – so the winter really makes me feel shut in and i am no longer as independent as i need to be. I walk everywhere & the city I live in does not take care of their sidewalks well enough for all 4 of us to get out in the winter. In the spring, summer and fall I never feel like i am ‘missing out’ on being able to drive. We live close to everything i could need — the grocery store, the library, our 2 banks, gym, swimming pool, splash park, community center and we have 3 parks close by. It is perfect. The four of us troop out daily – and often times we go out twice a day while Daddy is at work.
In the winter i cant do the grocery shopping, the banking, the parks — I have to wait for my husband to drive me & it’s lame. I lose independence in the winter & that is hard to swallow. Hard to deal with.
Today the weather is unbelievably beautiful. I am reminded that there is light at the end of the winter tunnel. The girls and i went out today (P is at school) and it was exactly what i needed. Especially after the week it’s been. I needed today. Badly.

Isn’t this sun amazing today? Loving it! I can’t wait for picnics in the park and actually getting around town easily with the kids (you know what its like trying to find parking here in the winter…).

Oh I cannot wait for spring and summer! I love going barefoot – so looking forward to that! I also can’t wait for the smell of freshly cut grass and baby calves (my dad’s a farmer).

I also don’t drive! I can, but we don’t have a car, and my triple stroller is my means of transportation. I am also thrilled by the freedom spring brings of finally being able to get out and go places and enjoy it.
