Over the weekend I opened up Facebook to find a status that someone posted addressing the “morons” who wear their sunglasses inside a store. This is not the first time I have seen someone address the “morons” or “idiots” or “self-absorbed” people who wear sunglasses indoors (or at night).
I am one of those people who wears sunglasses inside
& when it is pitch dark outside.
I am not wearing them to be incognito so i don’t get noticed. I am not an “idiot” who thinks I look cooler or more important wearing them. I do it because I have to.
Yep - imagine that. There are people who have to wear their sunglasses at night (& indoors).
I have a neurological issue that is triggered by bright sunlight and fluorescent lighting. & trust me when i say that i would look a lot more ‘strange’ or out of place if i did not wear my glasses.
They are prescription and I already feel ‘dorky’ enough wearing them — because of those people who don’t understand that sunglasses are not always a fashion statement but can be a medical necessity.
Judgement is nasty & especially when you have no idea what that person may be up against.

My husband has to wear sunglasses inside a lot of the time too. He had laser eye surgery a few years ago, and since then his eyes have been terribly sensitive to light. Judgey Judgertons are irritating.

so irritating!!
My Mother in law totally wears them too, they’re prescription and easier for her eyes I guess. There’s an awesome song about wearing sunglasses at night because it’s awesome to do! Screw the other idiots on FB : )

i love that song – & sing it in my head a lot when im wearing my sunglasses at night
People are just too judgmental; even at first sight. My glasses change to ‘sunglass’ lense darkness, so sometimes I’m wearing my sunglasses; even though I don’t want to. I wish people were more open to differences.

My husband wears his Rx sunglasses indoors sometimes if the lighting hurts his eyes. I don’t judge. I do however judge the sunglasses on the back of the head, when did that part grow eyes? =)

I’m so sorry you have to go through those judgments. I’m a very sensitive person and even if things are directly directed at me, they hurt me. For example, when people talk about breastfeeding vs. formula or something like that, it hurts although they didn’t necessarily mean to upset me. Hopefully they see what they’re doing and maybe think before they post.

Oh really i dont usually care. i just hate how people blab their mouth about something that is so tiny.
I am so sick and tired of people who label and make insensitive and rude comments. Good for you to write the post! Here’s what I wrote on the topic: http://karynclimans.com/2011/03/26/labeling/

Thanks for sharing Karyn
Hi totally agree with you. I have a disabled badge on my car. I have my right leg pinned into my hip. I walk with a slight limp & can’t walk for too long.
I get comments a couple of times a week by strangers saying you shouldn’t park there, what’s actually wrong with you, that space is for disabled people.
I have to explain I have a disabled badge and my leg is pinned to my hip and they still look me up and down and mutter under their breath.
Yes I know I look Ok but I have a disabled badge for a reason- I shouldn’t have to explain myself to you.

people can be so clueless.
People need to lighten up. Really? THIS upsets/offends them? And, I wear my sunglasses inside/when it’s cloudy/at night b/c I’m tired/confused/distracted because I have multiple children running around/talking at me so I don’t notice that I don’t need them. And this is a problem for others?? Get.a.life.
Huggggs to you!

i know … this brings people to name calling – you know, cause when i wear my sunglasses inside — it makes them look stupid and has a huge effect on their evening…. yep.

I wear my shades at night, and indoors too.
No neurological issue here – I usually don’t notice the sun has gone down (in my mind it rains, a LOT) or I’m too lazy to take them off when I go inside.

& i love that! why do other people care if you wear your sunglasses?
Agreed, agreed, agreed! Some people should really be more aware of what they are posting on Facebook. Who are they to be judgemental? They have no idea why a person does something. They ought to be embarrassed of their ignorance.

I think sometimes people are just really ‘in their own world’ & open their mouth way before they think about it. xxo
I think sunglasses make women so so sexy. I wish one day maybe I can find a girlfriend who loves to wear sunglasses indoor and at night…. it’s not easy at all.
