I have been unusually absent from this blog (& twitter & facebook) lately. I apologize for not being as quick to respond to comments, email and tweets for the past week and a half – things have been insane and painful…
If you are a frequent (or heck even occasional) reader of the site you will have noticed a huge trend here. I hurt myself. a lot. I am clumsy, breakable & am told more often the i care to admit that I need to live in a bubble.
The recent injury is one that has been occuring for a few months now – tearing muscles in my neck, back and shoulder which is painful enough on it’s own but I am also pinching nerves along with it & it is contributing to a neuro -issue that i’ve had for a few years.
Needless to say – i cant move too well. I am on some pain medication that is making things easier to manage but it’s not the most fun. I went back to the doctor this week and although I am not able to ‘will myself out of this’ I have been put under doctor’s order to:
find things that help me relax.
On top of the medication, physiotherapy, massage therapy and osteopathic therapy that i have to find time to do each a few times a week; finding things that help me relax, enjoy and stress release is my doctor’s order.
So, friends I look to you. Seriously I am so bad at this & i need any and all suggestions you have.

Oh no! I’m sorry you are in so much pain. I hope you get some relief soon.
I like to listen to music to relax. Read a good book. Meditate.

I scrapbook, watch mindless TV, and cuddle with my husband. I hope this helps. I know how elusive relaxing can be.
Also, have you looked at http://www.womanonajourney.com? She has good stress relief ideas too.
So sorry this is not getting better for you. Have you tried reflexology treatments. People used to tell me how wonderful and relaxed they felt after I would give them a treatment. Torn muscles just really need rest and with a family usually easier said than done. Wish I was there to help. Take care

Yoga and exercise…. Not sure if your injuries would allow that, though. Swimming and walking? Reading a funny book (that’s the least physical thing I can suggest). Crochet.

Do you want to know what has helped me….Kev got me a cleaner once a week. At first I had really mixed feelings about it but once she started and after a couple of weeks I realised how much time I was spending cleaning each week and not spending that time with my boys or resting. Now I am perfectly ok with having someone else cleaning my floors and bathrooms. The best part, I now have more time for my boys.
First, I am so sorry that you are hurt! ((HUGS))
Running helps me relax, but that is probably not the best idea for you. What about yoga? Massage? A nice long bubble bath or soak in a hot tub? I have heard that acupuncture can do wonders for injuries, though I have not personally gone down that path…yet.

I’m sorry you’re struggling with this. I don’t know if you’ve tried this, but I recently saw a chiropractor to help me with my migraine headaches. He also does acupuncture in combination with adjustments. I was a little reluctant to try acupuncture, but it has been WONDERFUL. After getting acupuncture I’m more relaxed than I ever was after getting a massage. I would definitely say it’s worth thinking about.

Another vote for a chiropractor. Mine does acupressure along with the adjustments and it has helped so much!
My neck and back pain has been reduced greatly. I’m now doing corrective care, so I have a little tenderness but nothing like before.

Aw, I’m sorry to hear that you’re in so much pain! Take it from someone who knows-Pain is NEVER fun no matter how it’s caused >..<

For some reason, it cut out the middle half of my message!
I’m a Reiki master, so I do a lot with energy healing (something to look into). I’ve also enjoyed the benefits of massage therapy, acupuncture and acupressure, chiropractic. Aromatherapy is a good one. Hot bath with epson salt and borax for detoxification. Stretching, yoga and any sort of therapeutic exercise is a definite. Sitting outside when the weather permits. Maybe taking a short walk. Naps.
It’s really important that you keep active and mobile no matter what because if you don’t, things will atrophy and it will be exceptionally more painful if that happens!
