Coming Out of Winter Hibernation!

March 29, 2010

Summer in the backyard and my modest garden (July 2009)
Spring has finally arrived this week. The weather is forecasting wonderful sunshine and temperatures that will not require me to rope the three kids into giant snow suits – AH!

Spring for me means happiness – it brings me out of hibernation – literally. During the winter a lot of my independence is taken away because of the weather.  Here in Ontario, Canada we get snow – some years lots and some years it’s not so bad. Since I am not able to drive, my mode of transportation are my feet, double stroller and Moby Wrap and/or public transportation and with the snow. The city I live in does not take care of clearing the sidewalks from snow very well and since I don’t have snow tires for my stroller I don’t don’t easily get out of the house – hibernation for me is December – March.

Normally I walk to the library with the kids, the community centre, the grocery store, splash park and multiple playgrounds nearby.  I swear sanity is in the quiet outdoors. My kids can be as loud as they want and it wont drive me up the wall.  The chaos is spread out because I don’t have all three climbing on me at one time while trying to cook, clean, and fold laundry at the same time.  I find so much happiness in sitting outside with the kids, going for walks, keeping up my garden and basking in the sunshine.

This spring/summer marks another meaning for me because it is the last summer before my first child starts school. My oldest will be going into senior kindergarten this year (we didn’t enroll him in JK) and I have some new routines to get him into and a lot of activities I want to fit in before I release him into the world (that is a whole new panic/rant).

What are you most looking forward to this spring/summer?

Stopping by from SITS!

Your garden is adorable! Wish I had one.

Well I live in Cancun, so I'm looking forward to the beach! (went yesterday for the first time in months)

I will miss wearing cute boots and jackets. Now I'm stuck with boring tank tops, shorts, and my hideous work uniform.

I will also miss not sweating profusely due to the heat and humidity. Ugh!

Thank you for stopping by! Love that you've been to the beach already – but i guess that's easier being in Cancun.

Ah! That is the thing with the summer for me too – love the warmer weather (like in spring here) but can not survive well in the humidity!

I hope you have a beautiful summer!

Oh thank you Caroline! when we first moved in – the whole backyard was patio stone. I put in the grass (grew from seeds) and the garden (you can see the veggie garden there on the right – there is also a flower section on the left not in the picture) last summer so i am extra excited this year to do it all again – one of the best things of the summer!

Thank you for stopping by!

We live in Florida, so it's slightly warmer here (although we did have a freezing winter). I'm looking forward to the pool, the beach, picnics and lots of time at the park!

CaneWife: Florida did have a cold winter this year. Ours wasn't actually too bad this year – a lot more mild then we've had before! I think going to the park is one of my favourite things about the summer – and i think we will be taking the kids to the beach (for the first time) this year too!

Thanks for visiting my blog:) I remember when my boys were young and I had to get out of the house each day or go crazy! I hated snow days when they were home and I was home and the noise levels rose.

It's so true! Especially bad when they are stuck inside for days and we all get stir-crazy! Not to forget that to get them out during the winter we have to put layer upon layer on them and that can be a lot of work :)

Thanks for dropping by WasitingTime!

I just saw the words 'gluten free' in your discription….I'm suffering from lactose intolerance and have problems with Fructose and Histamine too. Do(es) your kid(s) have intolerances?

Thanks for visiting BlackEyedDog.

We eat gluten free in the household because i have celiac disease (cant eat gluten) and so does my oldest daughter. I make many meals casein free as well because my youngest daughter is intolerant to it to a degree. My husband and son are lactose free and i can only tolerate it to a degree and can not handle fructose either.

Thank you for dropping by! check out some of my recipes for gluten free/casein free meal and desert ideas!
