Breastfeeding is NOT Obscene – Support For Momzelle

November 11, 2010

Back in April of this year I got the opportunity to test out a nursing top from a small Canadian breastfeeding apparel company called Momzelle. As said in the review I fell in love with the product and the company itself and have since been a huge supporter.  I recommend them to friends, joined their very supportive facebook fan page and wore this shirt and breastfed in public with ease.
Earlier this week I read a tweet from Christine at Momzelle stating that Facebook had removed their active fan page – deleted it.  Why?
For obscene content.
Christine received an email from the administrators of Facebook on November 8th and without any warning they deleted the page which had more then 1600 fans.  Fans who came to share photos of them and their babes in the Momzelle products and discuss breastfeeding in the news and come to each other for support.
Deleted.
Facebook has had a history of removing photos of breastfeeding and marking them as obscene but this is the first time a business that directly caters to breastfeeding women has been removed.  Momzelle has contacted Facebook to attempt to get their page reinstated but have had no response.
Breastfeeding is not obscene
We are up against enough booby traps & breastfeeding is  natural, human and healthy NOT obscene.
Momzelle has started up another fan page on facebook to help support breastfeeding mothers and fight to make breastfeeding in public as natural as it should be. Within 24 hours of starting their new page they have had more then 1400 people show their support.
I would love if you could show your support for Momzelle and breastfeeding by joining their new fan page (can be found here) and spread the message that breastfeeding is NOT obscene.

:: Have you ever had any issues while breastfeeding in public?  Where have you breastfed in public?::

Edited to add (November 11, 2010 @ 10:30pm): Facebook has reinstated Momzelle’s original facebook page after the outcry from mothers! Thank you to everyone who spread the word & showed your support!

I also run a breastfeeding business and facebook took my page down for about 2 weeks last summer. They never told me why – my page was just GONE as I was in the middle of typing something on it. They didn't send me any notification, I had to figure out how to get in touch with them and it was a HUGE pain, but I finally got it put back up. I emailed them daily for two weeks (despite the fact that they tell you to only contact them once) and it was finally reinstated. They said that I was given notice before it was taken down, but I was not. It is ridiculous what they do to breastfeeding moms and businesses!!

How sad :( And that is exactly why nursing in public is so hard sometimes!
