The last time I did something different with my hair was back in 2007. I had just had my second child and was going through some health issues and needed a new start. I had long hair for as long as I could remember – actually the last time I cut my hair (other then the 6mo trims) was back in 1999 – so I had been growing it for 8 years! I decided one day that I was going to cut it short. I cut off 15 inches to be exact – a HUGE change and donated my hair to a great charity Locks Of Love. I was SO glad I decided to cut it and I have not gone back since.

So back to this year and my New Year’s Resolution. Since my hair is still short I decided to try something I have always been afraid to do but have always wanted to do at the same time… go BRUNETTE.
On January 1, 2010 I went for it- I was now a brunette! It was a HUGE step for me and I was surprised that my kids didn’t seem to mind. I was sure my youngest would have a freak out (she freaks out when I just wear a hat) but it didn’t faze her at all, thankfully! It took so much for me to get used to, but I didn’t hate it.

I was happy with how little upkeep there was to the brown hair. I didn’t have to worry about chlorine staining my hair green or if my hair went a day or two without washing (honesty here … I’m a busy mom so that happens, sometimes a lot) it didn’t look a totally different colour and for some reason it helped me feel grown up and new.
A month or so later I started to get a strange sense of an identity crisis. I had been blond for 27 years and this new, much darker ‘do was starting to make me feel dull and that’s not a good feeling … so …

| Back to blond – April 2010 |
I went back to blond. It is not as light as it was before but with the summer coming up it will lighten up and so will I. The saying really is true (for me) that blonds really do have more fun. I am so happy I tried something new because that was SO far out of my comfort zone and I can now say I did it!
Do you have a hard time changing your hair or am I strange?

I hate changing my hair. The few times I tried to touch it with dye, the dye didn't take (phew) and my hair stayed exactly the same color. And it pains me to cut more than a trim off my hair, lol. So you're not weird
Unless I am…
Aw, I love it!
My hair is the thing I love to change the most. My stylist knows that I don't want it shaved and I don't want it blue. Anything else is fair game. Sometimes, if I'm feeling super daring, I tell her "surprise me."
In fact, I just went in yesterday and went from brown to burgundy. Next time, I'm probably going to go darker with a purplish cast to it.
It's fun, and if I hate it, it will grow out and/or can be fixed.
But I could be the weird one
Good for you for trying something new!
Well, I am glad I am not alone!
@CaneWife – i wish i was more like you! I think i still have to work on that a bit more

Change is so hard – but it looks like you've got it down. Your hair looks great in all the photos. It is great to have options and to mix up your look. Nice job. Beth – BDBuzz10
Change to my hair is definitely hard for me! But I really can't do alot to it…because my hair is black. I don't think I'd look good as a blond
The only 'change' that I do to my hair is change the gray when it grows in..LOL!!! A few years ago, I got my hair cut short and donated to Locks of Love, too. But now, my autistic son is 'obsessed' with my hair, and right now it is down the middle of my back, and I can't get it cut. He would be heart-broken
So, I'll keep it long for a few more years.
I liked the brunette on you…but you look adorable either way!!
if I could dye my hair blonde I.SO.WOULD!!! LOL! I don't have a problem dying my hair but i do get all weird about cutting it lol
Well, I've tried changes, but I always go back to the same style and color. I am currently gradually working my very dark medium brown hair back up to the shade of blonde I had about 5 years ago. I have to agree with you that blondes do have more fun. I am a bit more careful with my hair though, because it is my best feature (some would argue my eyes but).
Love it!
I'm always afraid to try anything too drastic, but getting highlights or a little bit of color and a good cut makes me feel great!
Change for me is so hard too. And whenever I decide to make a change with my hair I always end up regretting it! You look great as a blonde! Always do what you feel most comfortable with.
I have never changed my hair color… My hair has gotten lighter in the sun tho.

So I see you made the leap back to blonde!
I was blonde forever, as Ive said before– but I kind love my dark look— so for now it stays… even though I was told I look "more attractive" blonde…. Who cares- Im married
lol jk
That's the great thing about hair. If you don't like it, it will grow out. Unlike say, tattoos.
That is what I think is so weird about me – i have tattoos – a full back tattoo, the back of my neck tattooed, my inner wrist and my foot … like big tattoos (i will post pics in a few wks) — that i CAN do (i get something done every year) but … i have to really really really think about changing my hair
Thank you everyone for your comments!!
Yes, for sure! I had not cut my hair in a loooonnnggg time, anyhow, just got it cut recently and it does feel great!!
Love your new hair!!
it looks fabulous!!! I have the opposite problem and change my hair TOO much! Once its long, i chop it off and then repeat the process!
Congrats on being a mom listed on the D List today!
Oh my goodness, I get so freaked out at the thought of changing my hair. I've never colored it! I always wonder what I'd look like…but then I chicken out. Your hair looks great! You look good as a blond. =)
Thanks for visiting my site!
I have coloured my hair for years and years. I've been every colour (and every length and style) but somehow I always go back to longer and blonder.
Dropping in from the D-list! Love your hair. You're better than me. I'm always scared to change mine!
Thanks everyone for the comments and compliments! It is so nice to know that I am not alone in my weird hair issues. Also, good to know there are those out there who I can aspire to be more like
